"Prelude To The Planet Detroit"
Written by James McCauley

(DXJ thru a harmonizer)

Far beyond the party atmosphere, within the Michigan Galaxy, there lies a planet whose existence is dependent on the dance, and whose sole function is to party, and that they do...

Deep in space there is a place where the beat was oh so fresh, the people popped and locked and did the moonwalk to rhythms that are def,
They partied so deep that they couldn't sleep or see the danger signs, and before they knew they slipped into it, disaster struck hard times
Light years away they heard us play the hip hop generation sound, so they took a gamble and to Earth they ambled and proceeded to throw down.
They said "We've searched long and hard for a beat that's tough, and we came to find it's source", but the people of Earth gave them "Pretty Phony" stuff and blew them all off course.

But alas, due to various economic factors and an outright reversal of creativity the rhythms that once flourished began to fade into dance floor depression. Upon seeing this impending disaster various members of the dance floor sector collectively known as the nation of sweat entrusted their fate in three valiant funksters, who with the ultimate party in mind left the planet to invade neighboring planets with the intent of finding the good groove, the never ending dance which they would clone and bring back to their urban homestead and distribute equally amongst the inhabitants...

With the O-B DX and the Roland Juno, they made their message known in the studio, they said we're "Planet Detroit and that's the joint, we came to party baby, not exploit"
And while the people of Earth fell into a daze, they jumped on the charts like ol' Ike Hayes, but as you know there ain't no buttered soul in the world of corruption called the radio.
And like loose lip that can sink a ship, one went off on an ego trip he said "My chops are quick and my riffs are mean, I'm the most intrinsic guy on the local scene".
And he keeps talking smack while they don't look back, cause they know that they're moving on the right track, so to the beat everybody keep your ears tuned, looking out for the raiders of the lost groove!

Even though their meager vehicle of invasion was well prepared, they were beset by problems in marketing and distribution, and were thus choked out by various brainwashed, break dance practitioners whose capacity for dance floor movement is restricted to one common beat that has been mercilessly imitated and duplicated by so-called "music specialists" , this along with the traitorous and psychological defection of the endowed invaders, the mission seemed doomed... But wait! An undiscovered yet succesful escape was launched from "Planet Devoid" of true dance rhythms, and after wandering aimlessly through the record galaxy for months without charting, they chanced upon the Empyre small band of renegades on a similar mission, together the formed an allegiance to vindicate the true meaning of modern dance floor tactics, and upon their return to the Planet Detroit, they shall unveil the master plan!

In a world far away as the moon slowly sets, the people sit and sigh about their debts, It's been a long time since they rocked and popped, and they do now is sit around and talk,
They talked about those upon their planet, looking for the funk as though they never had it, And they talked about our heroes and their quest, saying they did what they did cause they thought it was best,
And every night they raise their heads to the sky, looking for the answer or the reason why.
They haven't lost sight of their hopes and dreams, just the way they look at reality, and another day ends into a night, the sun lit sky reveals an eerie sight, it's a little space ship out from the void, returning the funk to the Planet Detroit!
The Michigan Galaxy, at least we think!

Invisoclam's epic review of "Prelude to the Planet Detroit " by Maggotron.

Well, obviously Mr. DXJ had a lot to say about the local and national music scene at the time and decided to fill up a lot of space on vinyl in saying it! That having been said, you will notice a lot of references to song titles by The Empyre and other related Jamron groups in this song, also you will notice a lot of venting about former collaborators and competing artists of the day... yes, this one here is pretty self explanatory. The beat on this one is quite a departure from the normal Maggotron releases of the day due to the fact that Maggotron always did and still does prefer to work in the  concept album/collection of songs mode as is evidenced by the EP that this song appears on, again this was something that the average Miami Electro Artist at the time had no grasp of! For the die-hards out there this song was influenced by the P-Funk style of rambling on and on about some funky- sci-fi topic, much the way this review is rambling... any how, put on the headphones when you listen to this one and you will here DXJ in a sped up voice also parody and lampoon songs and artists that were contemporaries of this jam.
